First of all You need to create an account on website "IRCTC".Then You can book the ticket online. There is two way of buying it. E-ticket and I-ticket. In case of I ticket , they will courier the ticket to your home. Takes maximum 72 hours for metro cities. Otherwise go for E- Ticket. It is instantaneous process.You will get ticket booking message and email at register mobile no and email address. You can use this as your ticket. BUT DON"T FORGET TO CARRY THE ORIGINAL IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENT DURING TRAVEL.
Before you start booking train tickets you will need something to make payment only after that you will get confirm seats.To make payment you can use atm cards or net banking.
Follow these simple steps:

2. Now login to your account in irctc account and enter your source and destination station. The system will generate list of all available trains.
3. Select the train you want to travel in by clicking on the class you want to travel and selecting book now option.
4. Now you will be asked to fill the passenger name, age , sex and seat preference. Once you done filling this click on make payment.
5. Select the payment method and your ticket will be confirmed.
Note:-You will get message and email at register mobile no and email address. You can use this as your ticket, no need for printout, but remember to carry your government authorised id.
